IIT Kanpur has partnered with Lohum Cleantech, a leading producer of sustainable energy transition materials, to advance the sustainability of Lithium-ion batteries through academic research and development.
Under the partnership, Professor Kanwar Singh Nalwa from IIT Kanpur’s Department of Sustainable Energy Engineering will lead the team in collaboration with Lohum on projects focused on improving Lithium-ion battery testing technology and battery raw material quality evaluation.
The partnership aims to develop technologies that enhance the safety and longevity of batteries and promote the growth of electric vehicles (EVs) in India. Additionally, Lohum will provide a research fellowship to select Ph.D. students from IIT Kanpur, support the IITK Motorsports team, and help commercialize research outcomes.
Rajat Verma, Founder & CEO of Lohum Cleantech, is an alumnus of IIT Kanpur and recently visited his alma mater to discuss future steps for the partnership with IITK’s leadership team.
Prof. Abhay Karandikar, Director of IIT Kanpur, says, “The partnership with Lohum Cleantech is expected to help us advance the sustainability of Lithium-ion batteries through collective research and development initiatives. This adds up to IIT Kanpur’s relentless efforts in creating an R&D ecosystem aligned more towards a sustainable future. The partnership also bears testimony to a flourishing academia-industry partnership in attaining shared goals.”
The partnership aims to reduce the carbon footprint of EV batteries and accelerate India’s ongoing energy transition.
